NOTES

  1. Fildraw beg
  2. Jony married Thomas Mylrea, second son of John McYlrea & Elizabeth Shimmin in 1712
  3. As the younger son, Thomas was not entitled to inherit land from his family so bought a piece (called Fildraw beg?) in 1722 in shares with his sister. This sale became subject to litigation instigated by Charles McYlrea jnr who claimed the transaction was never completed even though the Deed of Sale contained the following: 8th October 1723 I do acknowledge to have received the remainder of the consideration money mentioned in this Bill of Sale in full of all demands concerning the same Witness my hand John McYlrea my mark X
  4. Jony & Thomas had 5 children: John snr (b1713), Thomas (b1716 probably married Isabel Gelling then Isabel Shimmin), Isabel/Elizabeth (1718-1725), John jnr (b1721 m Elizabeth/Isabel Caroon), Charles (b1726)
  5. Jony's husband Thomas died 1728 and no will has survived ; youngest son Charles died in 1740
  6. Both Jony's will and that of her youngest son, Charles, mention John snr & John jnr, resulting in the peculiar situation of having both of the sons named John survive to adulthood
  7. The two Johns were coopers in Castletown, and like their father, died young, leaving wives and small children. Their father died at 39 and the Johns at 33 and 36 respectively
  8. Third surviving son, Thomas, lived to old age
  9. There is much about the Malew Mylreas of the 1600s and early 1700s that does not hang together so extreme caution must be exercised
